Over 20 years ago, while filling page after page of a sketchbook, I doodled a strange little character with ridiculously long arms that dragged on the ground, skinny legs, and a permanent slouch. Then promptly forgot about him. He would eventually become Lunkhead Bob
Fast forward two decades and while digging through old sketches, I stumbled across that original drawing. Instead of stuffing it back into a drawer, I decided it was finally Lunkhead Bob's time to shine.
In this video, I take you through the entire journey of bringing Lunkhead Bob to life, from dusty sketchbook pages and concept drawings to sculpting, prototyping, redesigns, mistakes, failures, and plenty of head-scratching moments along the way. Creating a designer toy is never as easy as it looks, but seeing a character go from a rough doodle to a designer toy is pretty magical.
If you've ever found an old sketch and wondered "What if?", this video is proof that some ideas just need a little extra time... apparently about 20 years.
