Follow the history and physics of how we went from beautiful Geissler tubes to the unbelievably important cathode ray tube also known as the Crookes tube (CRT led to the oscilloscope, television, the x-ray machine & the discovery of the electron).


By the way, Crookes was truly prophetic. His quote about the "corpuscular theory of light" is published in the article "On the illumination of lines of molecular pressure" in the Royal Academy of London vol. 28 and his quote about "absolute zero temperature" is from an article titled "On a fourth state of matter" in the Royal Academy of London vol. 30.
