In 1918 the german effort in the air was quickly running out of steam. They could'nt replace lost aircraft at the same pace as they were shot down, and even more important: Most of their skilled airmen were killed and had to be replaced with hastily (that is poor) trained pilots. Although Fokker now delivered the probably best fighter of the war, the D-7, it was too late to make much difference against the overwhelming forces of the allied nations, who now had far more aircraft and experienced pilots, than the germans had.
