Tito The Raccoon | From Closet to Ferret Cage! @TitoTheRaccoon | Uploaded 6 years ago | Updated 3 hours ago
My current cage for the ferrets was way too small for four of them! It was time for an upgrade! I turned the closet into a large cage for them. It gives them a lot more floor space to run around and play. They can get the exercise they need when they are not being let out.

In this video you see me transforming an ordinary closet into a large cage for my ferrets. It is made out of wood, plastic, and tape! Before I put them in the cage I made sure to give them a bath so they were nice and clean. Its super cute to watch them run around after a bath.

In order to do this project, I completely cleaned out the closet and gave it a good cleaning. The next step was to lay a heavy duty plastic sheet down to help prevent any moisture from leaking onto the floor. Afterwards, it was important to have the walls protected from the ferrets scratching or making a mess on the walls. I used thin pieces of plywood to cover it up. The plywood needed to be notched at the bottom in order to accommodate the baseboards. Once the walls were in place I put down several hard plastic sheets to prevent the ferrets claws from shredding the thing moisture barrier at the very bottom. I didn't use wood for this part because the moisture would eventually rot the wood. I taped the hard plastic sheets in place so they ferrets couldn't move them around and then get at the moisture barrier. The final step was to lay down pine pellet bedding to absorb any messes the ferrets made. The ferrets are still young and are not fully potty trained yet. This helps reduce the smell and make for easy clean up.

It was important for me to make them a large closet cage because the ferret nation cage they currently were in was not suitable for four ferrets. It was also not the best cage for ferrets to be potty trained in.
