Going from CAD to a commercial injection mold. A team of us has been working with TCS (Train Control Systems) for several years to build a remote control (throttle) for model trains. We've been working with 3D printed cases and are now in the process of having an injection mold made. In this video I walk through some of the back and forth with the injection molders and a few of the issues we've seen with the first samples.

The mold is being made in China as an "export" mold that will be shipped to the injection milder in Ohio for production.

I also talk about steel safe design, which leaves steel in the mold that can be removed a little at a time to adjust the fit of parts. It's a lot easier to remove steel from a mold than to add it back in. The previous episode in this series is here: youtu.be/bN8URsXifho
