From Boulder to Biface: Tallahatta Quartzite!
In this video, I take a thick piece of Tallahatta quartzite and work it down into a biface using traditional flintknapping techniques.
Tallahatta quartzite is a unique material from the Southeast that can be challenging to work, but when you find good material, it can produce some incredible results. This particular piece wasn’t the slickest Tallahatta I’ve ever worked, but I wanted to see what I could get out of it and showcase the material along the way.
Watch the entire reduction from the original boulder to the finished biface—and see how it holds up all the way to the end!
If you enjoy flintknapping, arrowhead making, primitive technology, and exploring Southeastern knappable materials, be sure to subscribe to Gulf Coast Knapping.
