The largest representatives of the mososaurid family reached a length of 17 meters. According to some researchers, they could grow up to 20 meters. These were the largest lizards in the history of the Earth. Their ancestors were small land reptiles by the standards of that era, belonging specifically to this suborder. It was difficult for these lizards, who lived along the sea and ocean shores, to compete with more advanced dinosaurs. Therefore, they hunted in the water and spent the rest of their time on land. This is exactly how, according to scientists, the most likely ancestors of mosasaurs, aigialosaurs, lived.
