Oct. 10 saw Gilbert’s Friends for Life Animal Rescue place 16 dogs and two cats into new East Valley homes at its 16th Annual BARKtoberfest at the park outside the Gilbert Civic Center.
The event hosted some 10,000 visitors and was chock full of vendors selling everything from blinged-out pet jewelry to custom-made doggie doors. Live entertainment included demonstrations by the Gilbert Fire Department’s accelerant sniffing dog and Gilbert Police Department’s K-9 Unit, there was a huge raffle, pet trick contest, human/canine Halloween costume contest, a record 150 dog washes, one human engagement, and the always popular adoption alumni parade.
