Hey friends! This time I like to show you a core repertoire piece for late beginner/early intermediate piano players: Arabesque by Friedrich Burgmüller from his famous set of Etudes op. 100. This one of the first concert pieces young pianists will play. The playful and fast character and pearl-like notes and leave the audience often impressed.
This is one of the pieces where you can „impress with less“. Burgmüller really brilliantly realized his simple but smart ideas on only one page of sheet music. Probably this is the most famous piece of his op.100 set. Probably each of my students will have played this when they started learning piano with me.
The title ”Arabesque“ refers to the genre of a music piece that is a piece with lush ornamentation. Its establishment derived from the Western idea of Arabic music which is highly ornamented. Other famous examples of an Arabesque are those from Robert Schumann or Claude Debussy.

Hello wonderful people! This time I have a special video for you. It‘s the first time on this channel that a piano student of mine is performing her playing. Weina has been taking lessons with me for one year now basically starting to learn the piano after playing the accordion in her childhood. She has two wonderful daughters who also are my students. The whole family loves music very much and is highly engaged in piano playing. For me personally, teaching such students is big fulfillment.
I find Weina‘s progress and diligence amazing and it shows that if you pursue your goals you can achieve a lot even if you start as an adult. Because of her big engagement in her own playing and the playing of her daughters I invited her to play on this channel. In this Clementi Sonatina I am impressed by the flexibility of her finger movements. I explained her very much in detail how the trill works and suggested to use semiquaver triplets. Most of the students have a hard time to bring them into performance tempo but she did it incredibly well.

Muzio Filippo Vincenzo Francesco Saverio Clementi (23 January 1752 – 10 March 1832) was an Italian-born English composer, virtuoso pianist, pedagogue, conductor, music publisher, editor, and piano manufacturer, who was mostly active in England.
Encouraged to study music by his father, he was sponsored as a young composer by Sir Peter Beckford who took him to England to advance his studies. Later, he toured Europe numerous times from his long-standing base in London. It was on one of these occasions, in 1781, that he engaged in a piano competition with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Influenced by Domenico Scarlattis harpsichord school and Haydns classical school and by the stile Galante of Johann Christian Bach and Ignazio Cirri, Clementi developed a fluent and technical legato style, which he passed on to a generation of pianists, including John Field, Johann Baptist Cramer, Ignaz Moscheles, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Friedrich Kalkbrenner, Johann Nepomuk Hummel and Carl Czerny. He was a notable influence on Ludwig van Beethoven and Frédéric Chopin.
Clementi also produced and promoted his own brand of pianos and was a notable music publisher. Because of this activity, many compositions by Clementis contemporaries and earlier artists have stayed in the repertoire. Though the reputation of Clementi was exceeded only by Haydn, Beethoven and Rossini in his day, his popularity languished for much of the 19th and 20th centuries.
