I forgot to talk about the novel My Dark Vanessa, so I'll do that in a separate video because it's worth a discussion.
When I said my father "fancied" himself a musician, I said it a tone that was more snarky than I meant. He was a musician and I did love him for that. If it weren't for his love of music, I might not love it as much, either. Also, he did think he was smarter than anyone else and for a chunk of my life, I emulated that until I realized that there was/is so much I can't possibly know.
There's so much more I could say about John Prine, and what I wished I'd said in this video is that it was wonderful to see him grow in recognition over the last fifteen years or so. All the young bands like the Avett Brothers and Surgil Simpson and Brandi Carlisle who clearly loved him and celebrated his music has been amazing and heartwarming.
