Voyage of a Time Wanderer | Friday Reads | Library Love Readathon | Lots of historical fiction and international stories! @VoyageofaTimeWanderer | Uploaded February 2022 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Welcome to my booktube channel, Voyage of a Time Wanderer! This weekend is the Family Day long weekend here in Canada, so I thought I would share a (very!) quick #FridayReads #shorts video as we come to the end of the #librarylovereadathon.

The Time In Between by David Bergen - I am nearly half done this book already, and it is the final title off my Library Love Readathon TBR. I have had an absolutely amazing two weeks of reading thanks to this readathon! This is a #CanLit title telling the story of Charlie, a Vietnam war veteran, who returns to Vietnam as a tourist many years after the end of the war. When he goes missing, two of his adult children travel there to try to locate him. Switching back and forth between a dual time narrative, we alternate between learning more about Charlie's past and following his daughter Ada's search in the present.

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel - This trilogy has been on my TBR forever so when I heard that a few wonderful booktubers (Hufflepuff Discovery, Novelle Novels, Blatantly Bookish) were hosting #WolfHallAlong this winter and spring, I jumped on board! The goal is to have this book done by the end of February to be able to move onto book two in March, so this is going to be my physical book priority for this last week in February! A pillar of the Tudor-era fiction world, I am really looking forward to learning more about Thomas Cromwell and his motivations.

The Shadow King by Maza Mengiste - Set in the 1930s in Ethiopia at the time when Mussolini’s invading army clashed with the forces of Emperor Haile Selassie, “The Shadow King” promises to tell the story of “what it means to be a woman at war.” This was the book I received in a surprise book box subscription from my local independent bookstore. I'm quite excited to read this and be able to add Ethiopia to the list of my long-term Reading Africa challenge.

Somewhere Safe With Somebody Good by Jan Karon - This is book 12 in the Mitford series and this month's read for the #AYearinMitford project I am cohosting with Kate Howe, Angie from Literary Labors, and Rainey from RaineyDayReads. I have the audiobook out from the library, and it is pretty long (over 17 hours) so definitely want to continue listening to that over the weekend. I am two chapters in so far and absolutely loving being back in Mitford after the last two books about Father Tim's childhood and trip to Ireland! Our livestream discussion for this book is next Friday evening!

Tulip Fever by Deborah Moggach - After finishing and LOVING Russell Shorto's book on the history of Amsterdam earlier this week, I am so in the mood for more of the Dutch Golden Age historical fiction from my Reading Through My Family Tree: Netherlands TBR so I might try to sneak in this title as an ebook as well (and hopefully watch the movie adaptation soon too)!

Those are all the books I am hoping to be reading over this long weekend! Would love to hear in the comments what is on your Friday Reads docket this week!
