Fresh Water is the story of how a gay Brazilian surfer found
his home on the frigid hidden waves of the North American
Great Lakes.
After fleeing the home where he was not accepted as
himself, the trade off for Antonio was to loose surfing
forever. Or so he thought. The day he discovered a small
group of diehards who surf winter wind swell on the great
lakes, everything changed. Through sleet, snow and rain,
Antonio found new community and acceptance in the waters
where he least expected.
With the 2018 election of Jair Bolsonaro, a far right Brazilian
president known for his homophobic beliefs, Antonio felt
compelled to travel back home and experience this climate
as an empowered gay man. In doing so, he recounts his
challenging childhood and addresses the deeper truth of his
own identity with his closest family
