I have made two desks for the craft room The idea for the desks was that they could hang off the French cleat system on the wall. This would allow for a completely clear space below the desks and the desk to be moveable if they needed to be. The structure for the desk is a torsion box for the desk surface, then two side panels that both hang from above and support from below the cantilever of the desk. I used Russian birch plywood for the desk, 1/4 inch MDF for the desk surface, and alder for the trim on the desk. They work great.
