In lost foam casting, foam pattern accuracy directly determines the quality of the final casting. Any deviation at this early stage can lead to costly defects later in production.
In this demo, we showcase a fully integrated inspection workflow powered by FreeScan Trak Nova and PolyWorks — combining high-efficiency 3D scanning with seamless dimensional inspection in one connected process.
Unlike traditional workflows that require separate setup, manual alignment, and data transfer between systems, SHINING 3D Metrology scanning software is directly integrated with PolyWorks. Scanning can be launched inside the pre-configured PolyWorks workspace, and once completed, the scan data is automatically aligned and immediately ready for comparison — no redundant steps, no data conversion risks.
In this case, we scan a 1.5-meter turbine housing foam pattern using the 50-line laser mode, capturing the complete geometry in minutes while maintaining a volumetric accuracy of 0.062 mm. With a single click, we return to PolyWorks to generate a full-field color deviation map, quickly identifying discrepancies between the foam pattern and CAD model before they become casting defects.
This seamless integration transforms 3D scanning into a natural extension of your existing inspection workflow — bringing metrology-level verification directly to the shop floor.
