A few years ago my mother decided to have a conversation with me, a conversation that I forced myself to never forget. I must have been 7 or 8 years old, and I remember I came home crying, because some boys had teased me in school. Then she told me that I shouldn't let myself be overwhelmed by certain people who had the wrong knowledge. That I should be proud of being black, proud of our origins.
The years started to pass and I heard a lot of people saying that "this kind of thing did not exist in my country" (Brazil), that there is no racism here and I really wanted to believe that this is true. But the past few weeks have been difficult to take.
We are dying, we are being left there. NO MORE!
