29 April 1949: Cross Roads magazine launches. Editor Romesh Thapar โ anti-Congress, not anti-India. The State of Madras bans the magazine, Thapar takes the government to the Supreme Court and wins. What follows is the First Constitutional Amendment 1951, bringing reasonable restrictions into Article 19(2) โ security of the State, public order, friendly relations with foreign States, and incitement to an offence.
