The first piece is called "Urban Craft." I was torn between making a detective/noir kind of track and a horror/witch thing. I kind of crossed the two and this came out. It starts with a very echoey drum beat. The piano and low brass and provide the cornerstone for this track. Toward the end some trumpets rip in and we have some whispered chanting.
The second track, "The Long Winter," is an RPG inspired overworld or wintry dungeon theme. I used some older, original Playstation era sounds for this track. I was going for a Final Fantasy 7 or 8 kind of vibe here.
Third is "Scaring Crows." We start with some rapid hi-hats. The booming percussion comes in and adds some intensity. Then we have our piano and chimes which give us our creepy atmosphere. I was thinking of being out in the middle of a cornfield at night with a maniacal stalker tracking me down.
Next up is the unnamed "Bollywood Beat." I used a hybrid hip-hop kit that has an eastern Indian kind of feeling. I also used some middle eastern strings for the main melody. I imagined a group of dancers performing at some sort of commemorative event.
"Witch by the Sea," is track number 5. It's a mix between being atmospheric and melodic. A deep pad and the zither start us off with a few creepy notes. Then the Chinese Erhu takes the lead and is joined by a Japanese children's choir. It's a fairly simplistic track, but I thought it got its point across really well.
Track number six is "Imperial March." It's all intensity and action. The fast strings and percussion start us off immediately. Trumpets and French Horns take the lead to give us that strong, regal kind of tone. I imagined a villainous band of troops on the march and approaching fast. It's going to take everything we have to repel the attack.
And lastly is "Immortality, Power and Despair." It's a dark, organ track, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a horror piece. There's some reflection in the undercurrents of this track, which made me feel like our villain was at odds with something, perhaps himself. The last little bit of the track I felt was his realization of what he is and that despite any misgivings, he was a truly powerful force to be reckoned with.
I'll start a private poll for the second tier and higher to cast your vote for the piece you want finished. Voting will end September 30th, so you have plenty of time to decide!
Thanks so much for your patience and continued support! I hope you've all been well and I hope you enjoy the music!
