Today the February Music Poll is ready to go! We have 7 new samples all wanting that chance to be finished and given life.
The first track is an epic/trailer/battle piece called "Dont' Play With Fire." We have short, quick string work that provide the main body, booming percussion for some intensity and the strong brass for the final layer of icing.
Secondly, we have "Lovely Lotus," which is a peaceful, Chinese track. This piece starts not necessarily feeling Chinese at all, until we hit the 0:20 mark and we're introduced to a couple different stringed instruments which hail from that country. I had in mind a sort of bittersweet, love theme.
Next we have "Sounds of the Deep." This is a track I pictured that would be for exploring the underwater. I recently played a little Donkey Kong Country with my brother and I think some of that awesome soundtrack may have been lingering in my head.
The fourth piece is a simplistic music box and children's choir sample. it's beautifully haunting and bittersweet. I couldn't tell if I was sad, anxious, reminiscent or if I'd just lost something very dear to me. I kept the instrumentation simplistic as I felt overcrowding the track would have taken away from the feelings of the hollow emptiness.
The fifth is called "You Should Buy Something." This is a sort of nod to some of those old RPG themes I used to hear over and over again as a kid when playing those games. This one is obviously for a shop or marketplace and I can just see the shopkeeper standing like a piece of cardboard behind the counter while I search the place for treasure chests.
"The Final Straw" is a slow-building orchestral piece featuring mostly brooding, fading string sections and heartbeat-like booms keeping tempo. This is a cinematic style piece that I could see being used in a lot of different areas. For me, it's all about that climactic moment when you realize you can't go back to what you were before and everything has changed. It was about coming to terms with yourself.
And lastly we have "Have I Been Here Before?" This is a kind of hybrid, rock ballad. There are a few different elements here and I'm not sure exactly how I'd describe this one. Reminds me a little of some 80's rock mixed with some sort of brooding, film score. As is sometimes the case with me, this just kind of happened into existence!
I'll start a private poll for the second tier and higher to cast your vote for the piece you want finished. Voting will end February 26th, so you have plenty of time to decide!
Thanks so much for your patience and continued support! I hope you've all been well and I hope you enjoy the music!
