--- Those shots shook me to my core. This is my town now. Chasiv Yar, Kanal area. I spent my childhood and youth here. I know hundreds of people who lived here in peace and tranquillity. There were lights in the windows, children's laughter and the smell of freshly baked cakes. There was a long hill nearby with many wild flowers in bloom. This hill seemed to me the most peaceful place in the world. I could sit for hours in the shade of acacia trees and look at the smooth waters of the canal and the endless horizon of steppes and wheat fields.
Two years ago this town was bustling with life, but since 2014 the military contact line has been 30 kilometres away and the sounds of distant explosions are constant.
My house is on the bottom left of the first picture. Half of the house is destroyed, the upper floors are gone. The russian occupiers turned this and many other Ukrainian towns into complete ruins. They brought nothing but death, despair and sorrow. Wherever they come, they leave behind ruin and death. This world may have no hope for a better future if terror is not punished.
The 24th Military Brigade is holding the front in this area in incredible conditions and holding back the enemy at great cost. Honour and glory to the heroes.
