This run aims to get this star as fast as possible without the metal cap boxes activated (for the 80 Stars BLJless run).
Heres the WR *with* boxes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwJPNwVdnzg), though its worth noting that Im ahead by 11 to 12 frames where the runs begin to differ (i.e., the WR is improvable). This is because I found a new beginning strategy and really optimized it, which is good because multiple stars in this course use it.
Anyway, happy Doomsday, everyone. Lets hope the 80 run gets finished before the world actually does end! Kyman and I are making awesome progress and having a ton of fun finding routes and TASing them. Expect more sample stars in the future. Got some stocked up now that school has been out... ;)

Sorry the quality looks like total crap. Dazzles arent very good. :/ I added my hands in just for fun and to make editing 10x harder than it needed to be.
Anyway, I was able to get 4 button presses. This run beats chainchumper by 1 press. Theres multiple ways to do the double box area with 1 press instead of 2. The method I used is by far the easiest. The second way I found was using a very precise angle to spindash through the gaps (I couldnt do it consistently). The third way is to break only the bottom box if your fire...roll...thing isnt nice to you. :P Then you can backtrack and run on the sideways white wall. At the end of the wall, turn upwards and you can just fly straight over the box. Its not very difficult, but its definitely time consuming.

Heres a little throwback video to show everyone just how high SM64 optimization standards have become throughout the years. I figured the current WR would be the run to compare with since a new one isnt being made as theres no more known improvements..right? ;)
MOVING ON:
The video on the left is the current 0 Stars TAS world record (2012) done in 5:02:25 by Snark, Kyman, sonicpacker, Mickey/VIS, and ToT:

I included 2 timing methods, one being real time and the other being a frame counter. If you didnt notice, the final time of improvement subtracted from the time of the 5:47:37 should make the WR run 5:02:15. This is because for some reason the faster a stage is completed, the more lag there is from that section to the next (frame rules I suppose). When added to the time of 5:02:15, those 5 VI/s (half frames) of lag equal 5:02:23...but wait. Theres one more trick used to shorten the times of SM64 runs where the player(s) hex-edit out a single VI from the final frame of input (which is used on the WR). Finally, when you add that onto 5:02:23, you end up with a final time of 5:02:25. =)
Speaking of the final frame, TASVideos timing is from power on to the very last frame of input and no further. For these runs, that means the final B press to dive in the WR and the final A press to jump in the original.
