In this video, I show you step-by-step how to offset your existing central AC unit's electricity with a simple solar + battery setup. I'm using a Hoymiles HMS-2000 microinverter, an MPPT charge controller, and a 5kWh golf cart battery. If you have a small 2-ton unit or a 5-ton energy hog, this system is fully scalable — and it works with heat pumps too. Air conditioning accounts for roughly 19% of U.S. household electricity — about $29 billion a year nationwide. This setup can dramatically cut or eliminate that cost using the AC you already have.
