“The Zone” is the name given to an area just west of downtown Phoenix.
The area is a huge homeless encampment that has had at times upwards of one thousand people living in the area. In 2022, several owners of businesses located in the Zone sued the City of Phoenix. The results of this trial have been interesting. Law enforcement officers were almost entirely barred from enforcement actions inside the zone, and the results were catastrophic.
