22 year old Tacoma Assassin Freddie Steele makes his presence known in the highly competitive MW division when he beats the tar out of former champion Vince Dundee. July 30, 1935

On July 30, 1935, at the Civic Ice Arena in Seattle, Washington, rising middleweight star Freddie Steele delivered a devastating performance against former world champion Vince Dundee. Steele dominated the bout from the opening bell, knocking Dundee down 11 times in under three rounds.

Referee Tommy McCarty stopped the fight midway through the third round—despite a pre-fight agreement to only end the fight on the corner’s signal—due to the overwhelming punishment Dundee sustained. The former champion was hospitalized with a broken jaw in three places and a concussion. This marked the first knockout loss in Dundee's career after more than 140 fights.
