Escort Rally Special 2022. A rally we will remember forever.
I’ve been lucky to have rally victories over the years but this feels special.
The setting, the atmosphere, the welcome, the stages, the competition, the camaraderie, the sheer enthusiasm, it all makes for a unique event that’s intoxicating with the smell of race fuel and melting rubber in the air.
The competition was stiff and the O'Callaghan crews were very unlucky with mechanical issues for both Ed and Christopher in cars 1 & 2 along with co drivers Kaine Treanor and Gary McCrudden. Luckily Hazel & Kirsty upheld family honours with a well deserved finish and bragging rights to boot.
Paul & Karl Reid, Barry Jones & Iwan Griffiths all pushed very hard but it was Jack Newman & Andrew Browne that put the pressure on us for the entire rally.
What a pleasure to rally with all these lads. No bullshit hard rallying all the way and ready to help each other when needed.
Lauren always does a professional job minding me and calling notes to suit a dyslexic with a 2 second attention span but she went above and beyond this time. World class!
Rosemarie held the fort in service on her own while selling T shirts and feeding us and handing out spanner’s.
Christophe Jacob, take a bow my man. You are ERS. Your determination and patience knows no bounds. Really don’t know how you do it. I’d be jailed for manslaughter by now.
Lastly, to all the marshals, time keepers, photographers, spectators, and the organising team, thank you, thank you, thank you!
