FRAMES of REPRESENTATION (FoR) returns for its fourth year to investigate its founding principles and the political and
aesthetic approach at its core.

In conversation with the community of filmmakers, researchers, activists and audiences that support the festival, FoR 2019 aims to question the categories, languages, modes of speech and visibility associated with the cinema of the real. Recognising film as a cultural event that both reflects and intervenes into the fabric of society, the programme aims to nurture and connect a growing plurality of voices.
This year’s thematic focus, DEFRAMING: Decategoraizing Cinema, places film at the heart of a shared sense of urgency towards resisting centralizing and totalizing tendencies of thought, embracing cultural complexity and situated knowledges, and re-routing the dominant flows of power. It intends to spotlight localised intensities in a global conversation around race, gender, class and geography, which is moving towards a redistribution of agencies and affiliations.
