Fractal Design Epoch: Less Wood, More Airflow! | Blackout RTX 5080 PC Build @Mr_Matt

#FractalDesign #pcbuild #asuspcdiy - What if we removed the wood from the Fractal Design North? Would we get the Epoch? It would appear to be... Epoch: The Dark, Woodless North.

The Epoch series from Fractal Design was an unexpected but very welcomed addition to their PC Case line-up. Whilst the wood panels on the North have been iconic for many, it goes without saying that wood on PC cases isn't for everybody.

The Epoch retains the same build quality, dimensions and hardware support as the North which isn't a bad thing. The front panel being all unrestricted mesh allows for excellent airflow too. The mometum fans which came with this case would've been more than adequate, but with blackout in mind, we had to switch them for Silent Wing Pro 4's and we had no complaints.

The overall theme with the blackout Be Quiet! hardware combined with the the Epoch's monochromatic style really hits different with this one and we love it. It's worth noting that the 'black' version of Epoch is more grey than it is black... certainly something to keep in mind.

Whats meant by that is: a full size ATX PSU, longer GPUs and large air coolers all fit comfortably making this case an ideal high airflow case for beginners and seasoned builders alike. Off camera, I couldve easily assembled this PC in less than 20 minutes and I have zero doubts that a first time PC builder wouldnt have any difficulties either. Primarily thanks to the already optimised airflow utilising that HUGE 180mm front intake, more than generous cable routing thanks to the top mounted PSU location and of course excellent overall compatibility. The open nature of the case design simplifies assembly whilst offering great hardware support thanks to its adjustable backbone. For this build I wanted to assemble a blackout gaming PC with modest performance to be used in the studio for light gaming and running creative applications such as Lightroom & Photoshop. It goes without saying that the RX 7900 XT & Ryzen 5 7600 combo gets the job done nicely, without the worry of excessive heat. Speaking of heat, the additional bottom intake fan helps to push warm air away from the GPU when idle and under load. Further to this, it gives the chassis a little more airflow direction and whilst its not particularly needed in the first place, its welcomed for sure. To wrap this up, the Fractal Design Terra brings unique looks, solid performance and small footprint without compromising on hardware support. The build process was relaxing, intuitive and actually really good fun! I adore the wood touches as weve previously come to enjoy from the North chassis, which makes the Terra up there with one of my favourite chassis, even still in 2024!
