Everyone knows that the fx in the old Axe FX were great and the amp models were definitely usable.
The stock cabs it comes with were severely lacking though, but I was still interested in what can be achieved with a stock straight out of the box unit (after all that's what the person who just bought that device has to work with).
I tried to keep the post processing to a minimum, cause after all that's how I deal with real miked amps, I did notch some 4k fizz and boost a wee bit of presence, but not much (the stock cabs are fairly dark sounding).
So this is essentially the sound of the Axe FX Standard without any custom IRs or much of tweaking...approached like I'd approach a real amp, pretty straight forward chain and not much post EQ.
The amp models I used were 5150 and Rectifier (classic combination).
I'm still not quite happy cause I think it still has that typical "modeller" sound, but I think it's alright for songwriting and pre-production etc.
when fed into a real poweramp and cab the Axe FX sounds muhc better of course (check out my other videos for that).
