What an insanely busy week! This video is a compilation of some of my favourite flights over the week, ranging from test footage through to a demonstration hosted by GMAC, MMRC, XM2, DJI and Mission Foods. 100% my highlight was the demo day. Absolutely loved hanging out with everyone, track time was awesome and I really felt a bit of normality getting to show off DJI's new toy to some of their engineers, representatives and the general public!
For those wondering about my thoughts on the DJI FPV combo after playing with it for a full week:
-Wow the tech on this thing is insane, would love to carry some of this over to our traditional copters.
-The new FPV system is a major step up from the current air unit and vista systems. Having done back to back flights the latency of DJI vs analog isn't comparible so no way I would switch to it for racing unless I found myself in a DR1 scenario again.
-The efficiency of this thing is insane, there's a lot of magic in the design of that quad and engineering that I can't help but appreciate, if they ever decide to make a racequad as we know it I wonder how it would shake up the market. Many of the concepts in it are nothing new... but just implemented beautifully and in perfect balance.
-Holy moly I love 4K.
-Its 1000% a flying MacBook, not a race drone as we know it. That doesn't mean its bad, for people who complain it sucks because its fragile, go throw your computer at a wall at 100km/h or turn your car into a wall and see how that works out. If you fly within your skillset like you would treat a car or any other piece of precision equipment, this becomes a non issue. Does that mean all quads should be built the same? No, different tech for a different purpose.
-With that it is by no means a replacement for the equipment we have, but rather an addition that can be utilised on the field when the time is right. For some people it will be the one drone they need, and for others like myself, it'll be here to stay as a valued part of the fleet :)
