In my two years in the FPV sport I've had tons of fun, learned a lot, and made plenty of mistakes along the way. Here is a rather lengthy discussion of some of the things I wish I had done differently.
Most of the information here is not advice per se about what to buy and fly, but what to think about when getting into FPV and choosing aircraft and equipment so that it suits your needs the best. Your needs will probably not be the same as mine though.
The status I have achieved currently is to be able to pack a medium-sized, very simple aircraft into my vehicle, take it somewhere I want to fly, deploy my ground station and take off within 10 minutes, and confidently bring the plane home. I've done this with a flying wing design which is easy to set up and forgiving to fly, a modest OSD with basic navigation, ammeter, voltmeter, and RSSI, and a no-frills ground station using video goggles. I confess that many other airframes and pieces of equipment have come in and out of the equation and I will discuss those in this video.
