F.P. McCann has been entrusted with supplying and constructing a cutting-edge storage facility in the Breedon Hope Cement Works in the picturesque Derbyshire region. This ambitious project calls for the creation of 107 Buttress Retaining Walls, 8 Retaining Walls, and 6 Modular Shaft Units, all meticulously crafted at F.P. McCann’s state-of-the-art Grantham Factory using specially designed moulds tailored to the project’s specific needs.
The L Wall units are an optimal solution for this endeavour, mainly where quick installation is paramount. These units provide a speedy and cost-effective method for constructing, retaining, and containing developments within the site. They are available in standard heights ranging from 1 meter to an impressive 3.75 meters, with width options of 1 or 2 meters, depending on the height selected.
Transportation is efficiently managed, with two units loaded onto each flatbed trailer positioned horizontally. Upon arrival on-site, they are carefully unloaded from the delivery vehicle using a four-point lift and placed on timber supports to safeguard their integrity.
Once on site, the walls undergo a re-slinging process, allowing them to be pitched vertically with the aid of a three-point lift, preparing them for precise placement. Each unit features nine precast well voids integrated into its base, designed to perfectly align with the nine starter rebar rods that have already been secured into the ground.
After the units are lowered onto the starter bars, they are meticulously aligned and levelled to ensure structural integrity. To enhance the strength and durability of the installation, vertical joints are filled with F.P. McCann’s Thixotropic Grout, a high-performance jointing mortar. Additionally, the base of each unit is flooded with F.P. McCann’s High-Performance Grout, which effectively fills the well voids and reinforces the overall structure.
In total, an impressive 121 units were successfully installed over three weeks by a dedicated team of seven skilled operatives, demonstrating both efficiency and expertise in their craft.
