I love Michael Reynolds’ quote, "If all the soldiers, in all the armies, in all the world put down their weapons and picked up tools and started building sustainable/carbon zero housing for all the people of the world, our problems would be over and real life for all people would begin." While I don’t think I can make that happen, I would love to work with our veterans to build communities. These communities would not be handouts, but therapy for the people who live there. This would be the beginning of real life for many of our soldiers who have been ravaged by the effects of war. I also believe that working with veterans to build affordable, sustainable housing could be the fastest route to legislative change for sustainable housing as a whole. Veterans’ groups are one of the only forces greater than the inertia of status quo in our legislative process.
