Last year, we had the privilege of going up into the Jura mountains and interviewing a family of gemcutting women, spanning four generations. In this interview, we cover almost 100 years of French gemcutting and get to hear first hand accounts of what it was like to be a seasonal gemcutter on the dairy farm, in comparison with what its like to work today in a Jurassian fine gemcutting factory. I believe this is most likely the last interview the world will have with someone who used to be part of a hand-cranked, husband and wife team of farmer-cutters. Victoria and I have spent weeks and weeks translating and subtitling this into English. I hope you will spare an hour this weekend and sit back and relax into the story of four generations of gemcutting women from the Jura. Enjoy.
