One of the biggest mistakes shooters make is believing foundational skills are complete simply because they perform well from a static position. Static shooting is where many fundamentals are introduced, but movement is where those fundamentals are validated.
Shooting on the move pushes most into a level of discomfort that often leads to avoidance. As the sights become less stable and the problem becomes more complex, many return to drills they already perform well. Unfortunately, confidence built in comfort rarely translates to performance under pressure.
The purpose of shooting on the move is not simply to learn how to move with a gun. It is to expose the quality of your foundation. Movement reveals inefficiencies in grip, vision, body mechanics, and trigger control that static shooting often allows to go unnoticed.
Training occurs when you are forced to solve problems behind the gun. Start at a speed you understand, then progressively increase the demand until you are challenged to interpret what your sights, your body, and the gun are communicating.
