Fortnite - Roger Collum Gamescom 2014 Interview - "grew into something that we didn't expect"
Published on: 19 August 2014 by Gamereactor
Original Video Description:
We sat down with the producer of Fortnite, Roger Collum, at the dedicated Gamescom event for Epic Games' next major release. The talk centered on the central mechanics of the sandbox game and the long journey the development has taken.
Covering the basics of what Fortnite is "an action-RPG, a building game", the discussion moves to cover its development that started out simple enough, but soon grew.
"When we first started Fortnite almost three years ago now from that little tiny game jam the game really grew into something that we didn't expect," says Collum. "When we first did it we wanted the game to be something we could make in three months and just push it out there. We were trying to explore how could we do games at a much faster pace. And then as we started to explore the mechanics of Fortnite we realised we've got something really special and that it needed a whole lot more."
The interview also covers the characteristic artstyle, various game modes, and micro-transactions.
