Named after Major General Philip Schuyler of the Continental Army, Fort Schuyler began construction in 1833 but was not completed until the start of the Civil War.
This pentagon shaped fort is located in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx. With Fort Totten on the Queens side of Long Island Sound, these interlocking batteries created a bottleneck of defenses against ships attempting to attack New York City.
