Fort Howard was constructed for the war of 1812, the original purpose was to defend against the British in the Battle of Baltimore. The invasion consisted of 50 war ships and over 7,000 soldiers. In 1943 the location begun to serve as a hospital for veterans, and is known as the first research and development program in the health services industry.
