After marathoning the fantastic series Monster, I really wanted to make a video for my favorite character Johan. Yes, he was the 'monster'. Yes, he did evil things. I know. Yet as I finished the series I couldn't help but feel other things about his characters than what everyone always applies to him. I wanted to create a video that gave a different perspective on him, yet I thought I could never find a song that matched perfectly with my idea...or so I thought. A while ago I watched the music video of Track #1 by Sigur Ros, and I always wanted to edit to it because it was such a beautiful song. It was full of emotion, yet also empty, sad, and dark. I listened to this song once again when I was looking for music ideas for this video, and I knew, it was exactly what I felt about Johan as I finished Monster.
I had to cut the song drastically, but I feel it's still a good length to not destroy the overall feeling of the song. It's such a unique song I hated cutting it.. but it had to be done since Johan has VERY limited scenes to work with. I'm also quite proud of the fact that I did not show a close up shot of Tenma, or focused on him much. That's an accomplishment all in its own. Lol
I had a very specific idea on how I wanted to portray this character through this video but I'm not going to disclose what my idea was. I want to leave it up to the viewers to come to their own conclusion. So please enjoy the video for what it is, I put a lot of work in it, and used my whole spring break to finish it. (Often staying up til 5 am, and working on it literally all day..)
Side Note: I'd like to give a HUUGE thanks to M0oranshi. If it wasn't for her, I would never have heard the song or watched the anime. Not only that, but she helped me organize my ideas for the later part of the video and gave some very excellent pointers and thoughts when I got stuck. I doubt this video would have come out as it did if it wasn't for her. So I really needed to thank her, once again.
