Green Beetle | Forging And Fishing Damascus Lures! @GreenBeetle | Uploaded 3 years ago | Updated 2 hours ago
Something different this time... Instead of a knife we'll be forging fishing lures from 1095 and 15n20 steel then take them fishing. Watch to find out what happens!
Re: nickel. Apparently it is bad to ingest and is known to contaminate water sources. Recommendations in California say nickel is no more toxic than any other metal that goes into lures and fishing weights. Don't fish with lead, though! Nickel plated fish hooks are commonly sold and so-called "black nickel" lures are common (black nickel is an alloy w nickel, zinc and other stuff). There's no chance dragging these two lures through waterways is going to hurt our ground water but the problem with lures is that they get stuck in fish or on branches never to be found and their chemical components leach into the water. I guess if only one person ever littered we wouldn't have a problem with litter. So I used 20 lb line to keep these lures securely on the end of my pole and will retire them until I can better understand whether or not they are safe for the environment.
