A 3-layer construction technique (name?) is used to forge a knife from COLD STEEL knives. Multiple 1080 steel knives are welded into a billet which is sandwiched between two other billets made from 1055 cold steel blades. We got angle grinding, forging, tack welding, a canister, handle making and wieners. This video has it all! Wait, you want to see the knife chop through a boot with meat in it? Hmmm...

To the manufacturer's credit this knife steel took a nice edge.

DO NOT PUT COATED METAL INTO A FORGE THE FUMES MAY BE DANGEROUS. I took special precautions here including a special respirator filter, extra ventilation and moving myself 40-50 ft away outdoors momentarily but this still could have gone badly.
