A number of distinct Ford Motor Company vehicles and engines go by the nameplate Ford Puma. Between 1997 and 2001, a sport compact bore the nickname for the first time. At the Go Further conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the nameplate's return was announced. In 2019, a new subcompact crossover SUV vehicle started using the nickname again. On several Duratorq engine variations, Ford also utilizes the Puma moniker.
The third-generation Kuga and the Puma crossover were initially introduced during Ford's Go Further event in Amsterdam. The Puma sport compact was the last vehicle to have the Puma moniker. The automobile is built on the basis of the seventh-generation Fiesta (Ford Global B-car platform).
In Craiova, Romania (Ford Romania), the EcoSport subcompact crossover and the EcoBoost 1.0 L Fox engine utilized in both vehicles went into production in October 2019. Ford contributed 200 million euros to the project and employed 1,700 employees.
The Puma is available with a mild hybrid 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a belt-driven integrated starter that charges the 48-volt lithium ion battery pack using energy from the braking system to boost torque and reduce pollution. 153 bhp (155 PS), 114 kW, and 240 Nm (180 lbft) of power are rated, with an extra 50 Nm (37 lbft) from the built-in starting system.
