Another day another Ford fix... the Mondeo Mk3 glove box latch has a common failure point shown here. To open the glove box while jammed you will need a metal hooked coat hanger, trick as shown. Then to either fix or replace the latch assembly you'll need a T20 torx driver.
I used a small screw to replace the broken arm. It's a bit of a bodge, a proper fix would be a metal arm that better emulates the old plastic. But if it works it works.
The car shown is RHD. The situation is exactly mirrored for LHD cars (e.g. the latch is to the right of the handle, not the left).
