In the mechanical keyboard hobby, the feeling of a switch may seem like a subjective thing but by measuring the force that a switch applies on your fingers as you press it down and up, you can see certain patterns and characteristics on the force curves that correspond to what you feel.

I just saw milktooth’s video on “The Problem with Keyboard Switches” the other day and when he said that there we should de-emphasize measurements, I felt the need to make this video. I love looking at force curves, and I wish more people would look at force curves when determining switches to use for themselves and when modding switches.

Many conclusions I drew regarding how certain characteristics on the force curves correspond to what we feel is partially from watching other keyboard reviewers (such as Chyrosran22 explaining that a switch’s weight is determined by work done) and partially my own conclusions after being in the hobby for around 5-6 years.

All of the force curves in this video are made by Haata’s and BluePylon’s measurements. The charts themselves were made by me using Google Sheets.
