08 Forbidden Friendship

The piece marks my favourite scene in the film. The instrumentation, namely the mallet percussions, really sets it apart from the rest of the soundtrack. It was quite a challenge to imitate that on the piano and, for the first time in the project, I had to begin with a two-piano arrangement before narrowing things down to one, which became an ongoing trend. The first copy took me a week and a half to finish, but hearing how amazing it sounds in the end always pays off every minute spent with the headphones and on the keyboard.
This video wraps up the first series of recordings made this summer. Right now I'm still practising new pieces for the next filming session. There's no guarantee as to when the next video will be posted, but until then, keep an eye out for new scores on the blog!
***Inspired by the wonderful film and Powell's brilliant score, I embarked on the project to transcribe the entire soundtrack for piano in February 2011 - all by ear. Completed arrangements can be found on my blog page via the link above.***
