FOR MARY
By P B Taylor
The one I loved forever, and an extra day
Flew by so fluid fast, then stole away
Then she stared but she still did not see
It was merely a passing lost vision of me
Turning to you sadly with my eyes ablaze
Always possibly a touching kiss a longing gaze
Yet woke again to feel you near my hand
See you floating drifting through the sand
The one I loved forever, and an extra day
We loved you both in our own small way
But when we looked, I saw you were not there
And confused we cried and shouted “where”?
I said we loved you as men turned another way
“Go home” they cooed with a stiff bow “Goodbye”
To the one I loved forever, and an extra day
As you flew by so fluid fast then stole silently away
Oxford Summer 1980
