The fifth episode of For All Mankind’s third season brought an end to the race to Mars. It came down to the final moments and Ed Baldwin deciding to abort at the last minute. NASA's Sojourner 1 has become a joint mission with USSR and the director of Roscosmos tries to pressure Margo into helping them with equipment for experiments.

In episode 5 commander Danielle Poole leads her crew into the alternate history books when they touch down first. NASA was able to recover fuel from the Mars-94 craft which was enough to get them back in the race.

Even in victory, there's trouble at NASA because Margo provided the Soviets with the plans for their nuclear engine. Now that they are working together Aleida has figured out that the engines are nearly the same. She knows that someone gave up the classified plans but doesn't realize it was her boss and mentor.
