The second episode of For All Mankind’s third season accelerated the race to Mars. Billionaire Dev Ayesa made an offer to buy Polaris’ doomed space hotel, and Karen realizes their goal is to take it to Mars. Her tragic accident in the premiere paved the way for a three-way competition to see who can get to the red planet first.

We learned in the first episode that NASA and the USSR were preparing to send missions to Mars in 1996. In episode 2 Helios announced that their mission would be going sooner, and this is going to cause all three parties to accelerate their plans.

Episode 2 saw Molly Cobb use her authority to go agains Margo Madison’s wishes and name Ed Baldwin the commander of the Mars mission. When Margo found out she decided to fire Molly and put Danielle Poole in Ed’s place. This led to tensions and eventually saw him leave NASA to command Helios’ mission.
