I created these unique "boot sandals" featuring plastic bands a long time ago, and now they are coming right back into fashion! People love this style, so I am crafting them again.
When you first look at this design, it probably looks incredibly complicated. But here is the secret: knowing the foundational structure is what allows me to create any footwear design, build any construction, and add unique 3D elements that are not only beautiful but completely functional.
Sometimes, new students in my shoemaking program see a complex shoe like this—or an Oxford with unusual straps and laces—and feel completely overwhelmed. They ask, "How do I even begin to make something like this?"
The truth is, in most cases, you are just looking at a classic design mixed with elements from other footwear types.
