Sunday September 4 we were invited to visit the Tanfield Railway . This is the oldest railway in the world and may celebrate its 300th anniversary in 2025. We were well received by GM Simon S., who guided us through the locomotive shed, workshop and other equipment still to be repaired. He asked the steam driver, fireman and cleaner if we could do a short footplate ride. The team was kind enough to allow us access to the footplate . Thank you for that. We also want to thank the other volunteers such as the train guard, the lady in the signal box and those in the shop & tea house.
