Are you nervous about introducing allergenic foods to your baby? Food allergies in kids are common, affecting about 1 in 10 people in the United States, but early and frequent introduction of common allergens may actually help reduce the risk. In this episode of Little Lessons, pediatrician and mom Dr. Lena van der List explains what parents need to know about food allergies in babies and children, including the most common allergens and how to safely introduce them around 4–6 months of age.

Dr. van der List also explains the difference between a true food allergy and a food intolerance, what symptoms to watch for, and when to seek medical care. Learn how food allergies are diagnosed, why broad panel testing is not recommended, and how to manage reactions — from mild symptoms treated with antihistamines to severe allergic reactions requiring an EpiPen and emergency care.
