Hey YouTubers, here's a video about Folding at Home, where you can use your computer to run simulated protein folding to help assist with the research for many diseases, including COVID-19/CoronaVirus. As part of this video, I am up grading my HP ML350 G6 from single to dual 6 core Xeon CPUs. The CPU that I have chosen to use is the Intel Xeon X5670. This system does support a few higher spec CPUs, but the model I have chosen seems to be the more widely available and cost effective. The first CPU I purchased for this machine I got via Facebook Marketplace for £12, and it was fairly local to me too (just a few miles away). The second CPU I purchased from eBay for just under £20 including postage.
The machine currently sports 36GB ram (which will be upgraded soon to 6x 8GB sticks to total 58GB ram). Also I have purchased a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 for gaming as well as folding. I chose this graphics card as the price is wallet friendly, but also due to the fact that it does require any external power (it takes less than 75 watts, which is what the PCI-E slot provides). The 16x PCI-E slot in this system is only electronically connected as 8X, and is also Gen 2.0. This does not affect the G graphics performance, neither does it create a data bottleneck for this particular GPU.
